A BREAKTHROUGH season has seen Chris King take out his first Warrnambool and District Drag Racing Association championship.

WADDRA president Tony Frost said King, who won two meetings and was runner-up in another at his home track, was a deserving winner.

“He’s had a good season. He’s been travelling as well. His consistency has paid off all year,” Frost said.

King claimed the title ahead of runner-up Darren Stennett.

WADDRA held its presentation night on Saturday at the Whalers Hotel, with Melbourne-based multiple-time Australian funny car champions Peter and Helen Russo, who have been competing in the United States, as guest speakers.

“We had a good presentation. It was a good night and we’re looking forward to the upcoming season, which kicks off in early November,” Frost said.
